Q1 I can't get any sound.
Q2 The sound level is low.
Q3 The effect is not active
Q4 Adjusting the control knob has no effect on the sound

Sound Editor [Windows]
Q7 The USB Driver does not install.
Q8 When controlling the Magicstomp from the computer via USB, the Magicstomp either doesn't operate normally, or it doesn't produce any sound.
Q9 I click on the “MAGICSTOMP Setup” button but the YAMAHA USB driver is not shown in the MIDI dialog box.
Q10 The appropriate in/output ports are not displayed in the Editor Setup dialog box.
Q11 Bulk data does not transmit. (The Magicstomp does not receive data from the Sound Editor. The sound does not change.)
Q12 The Sound Editor does not receive bulk data. (An error occurs while receiving bulk data and the receive bulk data operation fails.)
Q13 The Sound Editor Window does not appear although the Library Window (Patch List display) is double-clicked.

Q14 The USB Driver does not install.
Q15 The USB port is not recognized.
Q16 When controlling the Magicstomp from the computer via USB, the Magicstomp either doesn't operate normally, or it doesn't produce any sound.
Q17 Bulk data does not transmit. (The Magicstomp does not receive data from the Sound Editor. The sound does not change.)
Q18 The Sound Editor does not receive bulk data. (An error occurs while receiving bulk data and the receive bulk data operation fails.)
Q19 The Sound Editor window opens but I can't edit with the Sound Editor.
Q20 Library files (extension .ub9) created in Windows are not recognized as Magicstomp library files.

Magicstomp
Q1 I can't get any sound.
A1 Make sure that the power adaptor is properly connected.
Make sure that the instrument's volume control is turned up.
Make sure that the volume control on the Magicstomp is not set to “0”.
Make sure that the effect's output level is not set to “0”.
Q2 The sound level is low
A2 Switch the input level to the "HIGH" position.
Q3 The effect is not active
A3 Make sure that the effect's output level is not set to “0”.
Check to see if the effect is switched OFF (all lamps on the effect are OFF). If so, switch the effect ON.
Q4 Adjusting the control knob has no effect on the sound
A4 Rotate the knob until the value shown on the display changes, and then try setting.
Q5 I can't change to another patch.
A5 Check the display. You can not select another patch if the Magicstomp is in its Tuner Mode or Name Edit Mode. Exit the mode and try again (select a patch and switch the effect ON).
Q6 The sound coming from the amplifier is unnaturally distorted.
A6 The Magicstomp's output level may be set too high. If so, reduce the volume on the Magicstomp.

Sound Editor [Windows]
Q7 The USB Driver does not install.
A7 Make sure the USB cable is properly connected.
If so, try unplugging and reconnecting the cable.

If the previous advice does not solve the problem, it could be that your computer's USB function is not enabled.

If the “Add New Hardware” wizard did no appear when you connected the Magicstomp to the computer for the first time, it is likely that your computer's USB function is not enabled. If so, perform the following procedure:
1) For Windows 98/Me users, select [Control Panel] –› [System] –› [Device Manager] or,
For Windows 2000/XP users, select [Control Panel] (Windows XP: Classic View) –› [System] –› [Hardware] –› [Device Manager].
2) Make sure that there are no “!” or “x” marks in the [Universal Serial Bus Controller] or [USB Root Hub] settings. If you see such a mark, the USB controller is disabled. Refer to your computer's operating manual and enable the USB controller.

It also may be that an unknown device is registered.
If driver installation fails, the Magicstomp is marked as an [Unknown Device] and the driver will not install. Use the following procedure to delete the [Unknown Device].
1) For Windows 98/Me users, select [Control Panel] –› [System] –› [Device Manager] or,
For Windows 2000/XP users, select [Control Panel] (Windows XP: Classic View) –› [System] –› [Hardware] –› [Device Manager].
2) Look for [Other Devices] in the [View Devices by Type] menu.
3) If you find [Other Devices], double-click it to extend the tree and look for [Unknown Device]. If one is found, select it and click on the [Remove] button.
4) Disconnect the USB cable from the Magicstomp and reconnect the cable again.
5) Install the driver again. (Refer to page 2 of the Software for Magicstomp Install Guide).
Q8 When controlling the Magicstomp from the computer via USB, the Magicstomp either doesn't operate normally, or it doesn't produce any sound.
A8 Make sure that the driver has been installed.
Check the USB cable connections.
Make sure that the volume control on the Magicstomp is not set to “0”.
Make sure that the effect's output level is not set to “0”.


Check and see if the effect is switched OFF or if it is in the Tuner Mode, Store Mode, or Name Edit Mode.
Make sure that the Magicstomp is in its normal operating mode (select a patch and switch the effect ON).

Use the following procedure and make sure that the proper port is selected in the Sound Editor.
Click on the [MAGICSTOMP SETUP] button on the computer display then make sure that the Yamaha USB Driver is selected in the [MIDI] dialog box. If not, select the Yamaha USB Driver.
Q9 I click on the “Magicstomp Setup” button but the YAMAHA USB driver is not shown in the MIDI dialog box.
A9 Start the Sound Editor after connecting the Magicstomp to the computer.
Q10 The appropriate in/output ports are not displayed in the Editor Setup dialog box.
A10 Click on the [MAGICSTOMP SETUP] button on the display, then make sure that the Yamaha USB driver is selected in the [MIDI] dialog box.
If it is not, select the Yamaha USB Driver.
Q11 Bulk data does not transmit. (The Magicstomp does not receive data from the Sound Editor. The sound does not change.)
A11 First, turn the power OFF and then ON again.

If that doesn't solve the problem, check the Sound Editor's MIDI IN/OUT port and Device Number settings.

In the Sound Editor, click on the [Editor Setup] button and open the [Setup] dialog box. Make sure that the Yamaha USB Driver is selected, and that the Device Number is set to “1”.

It also may be that the dump interval setting is too short
In the Sound Editor, click on the [Editor Setup] button and open the [Setup] dialog box. Set the [Dump Interval] to a larger value and try again.
Q12 The Sound Editor does not receive bulk data. (An error occurs while receiving bulk data and the receive bulk data operation fails.)
A12 First, turn the power OFF and then ON again.

If that doesn't solve the problem, check the Sound Editor's MIDI IN/OUT port and Device Number settings.

In the Sound Editor, click on the [Editor Setup] button and open the [Setup] dialog box. Make sure that the Yamaha USB Driver is selected, and that the Device Number is set to “1”.

It also may be that the dump interval setting is too short
In the Sound Editor, click on the [Editor Setup] button and open the [Setup] dialog box. Set the [Dump Interval] to a larger value and try again.
Q13 The Sound Editor Window does not appear although the Library Window (Patch List display) is double-clicked.
A13 Check and see if the [Monitor] button in the toolbar is depressed.
If so, click on the [Monitor] button in the toolbar to cancel the Monitor Mode then the Sound Editor window should appear.

It also may be that the Sound Editor's window is positioned below or off to the side, etc., of the display, or hidden behind the task bar. Try the following procedure:
Right click on the taskbar and select [Properties], then check the [Auto Hide] box in [Taskbar Options], and click on the [Apply] button. If the edit display is open, use the mouse and drag the window to a new position, then cancel the [Auto Hide] setting, and click [OK].

Sound Editor [Macintosh]
Q14 The USB driver does not install
A14 Check the USB cable connection.

Disconnect the USB cable, then connect it again.
Q15 The USB port is not recognized.
A15 Make sure that the USB driver is properly installed on your computer.
Q16 When controlling the Magicstomp from the computer via USB, the Magicstomp either doesn't operate normally, or it doesn't produce any sound.
A16 Make sure that the driver has been installed.
Check the USB cable connections.
Make sure that the volume control on the Magicstomp is not set to “0”.
Make sure that the effect's output level is not set to “0”.

Check and see if the effect is switched OFF or if it is in the Tuner Mode, Store Mode, or Name Edit Mode.
Make sure that the Magicstomp is in its normal operating mode (select a patch and switch the effect ON).

Open the Magicstomp Setup File (USB-MAGICSTOMP) found in the OMS folder on the supplied CD-ROM, select [Make Current] in the File Menu.

Open the [OMS Port Setup] in the [MIDI] menu and make sure [MAGICSTOMP1] is selected in the [MIDI In] and [MIDI Out] pull down menus in the [OMS Port Setup] dialog box. If it is not, select [MAGICSTOMP1].

Open the [OMS Port Setup] in the [MIDI] menu and make sure the [Keyboard Thru] mark is cancelled in the [OMS Port Setup] dialog box.

Make sure that the MIDI IN/OUT settings in the [OMS Port Setup] are not left blank.

If you change the OMS ports or setup, the OMS ports have to be set accordingly in the Sound Editor's [OMS Port Setup] window.

If the port and setup assignments are frequently altered, it may be that OMS can not recognize the port.
Q17 Bulk data is not transmitted.
(The MAGICSTOMP does not receive data from the Sound Editor For MAGICSTOMP. The sound does not change.)
A17 First, turn the power OFF and then ON again.

If that doesn't solve the problem, check the MIDI IN/OUT port settings in the OMS Port Setup.

Open [OMS Port Setup] in the [MIDI] menu and make sure that [MAGICSTOMP1] is selected in the dialog box's [MIDI In] and [MIDI Out] pull down menus. If not, select [MAGICSTOMP1].

Make sure that the Device Number is set correctly in the [Editor Setup].
Click on the [Editor Setup] button in the Sound Editor to open the [Setup] dialog box, and make sure that [Device Number.] is set to“1”.

It also may be that the dump interval setting is too short.
Click on the [Editor Setup] button in the Sound Editor to open the [Setup] dialog box, and set the [Dump Interval] to a larger value and try again.
Q18 The Sound Editor does not receive bulk data. (An error occurs while receiving bulk data an the receive bulk data operation fails.)
A18 First, turn the power OFF and then ON again.

If that doesn't solve the problem, check the MIDI IN/OUT port settings in the OMS Port Setup.

Open [OMS Port Setup] in the [MIDI] menu and make sure that [MAGICSTOMP1] is selected in the dialog box's [MIDI In] and [MIDI Out] pull down menus. If not, select [MAGICSTOMP1].

Make sure that the Device Number is set correctly in the [Editor Setup].
Click on the [Editor Setup] button in the Sound Editor to open the [Setup] dialog box, and make sure that [Device Number.] is set to“1”.

It also may be that the dump interval setting is too short.
Click on the [Editor Setup] button in the Sound Editor to open the [Setup] dialog box, and set the [Dump Interval] to a larger value and try again.
Q19 The Sound Editor window opens but I can't edit with the Sound Editor.
A19 Look inside the application's folder and make sure that the "VEParts.dll" file that was installed with the application is in the folder. If not, reinstall the editor.
Q20 Library files (extension .ub9) created in Windows are not recognized as Magicstomp library files.
A20 Change the Type/Creator settings for Library Files as follows, then try double-clicking the file again.

Creator: UB9E
(Procedure example (OS9.1))
[1]Open “File Exchange” control panel.
[2]Use the PC Exchange tab and click on [Add].
[3]Select [Sound Editor For MAGICSTOMP] in the application field, and then click the [Select] button to assign the application's location.
[4]Enter “ub9” as the extension.
[5]Click the “Show more information” button.
[6]Select “Binary Data” in the Data Format field.
[7]Close the setting's dialog box to complete.
After this procedure is complete, files will be recognized.
